2008-2009 NBA Forecaster MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES (22-60, 14TH WEST CONF.)

The Grizzlies are officially in rebuild mode. After one failed attempt with Pau Gasol, they are now going to try their luck with his younger brother Marc Gasol.

Marc Gasol isn’t just another player; he knows how to play the game and knows how to win. That’s what happens when you play for Spain and win championships. His 7 foot 1, 260 pound frame will be very intimidating. I do believe the Grizzlies are on the rise and have fantastic young talent coming up.

Everyone knows what Rudy Gay is capable of doing, especially now with his one on one game much improved. Entering their rookie years will be Darrell Arthur out of Kansas, which just won an NCAA Championship. O.J. Mayo will also be making his debut most likely at the point guard position. Mike Conley had an okay year last season, but was pretty good.

So the Grizzlies may run into problems here and there on the court, both defensively and offensively, but will provide entertaining basketball. Look for head coach Marc Iavaroni to just let the players play sometimes.

POSITIVE --> YOUTH MOVEMENT AND THE AMOUNT OF PROSPECTS.
NEGATIVE --> INEXPERIENCE AND AMOUNT OF YOUTH.
X-FACTOR --> MARC GASOL WILL BE A BIG TIME PLAYER AND IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE HE’LL HAVE A HARD TIME ADJUSTING TO THE NBA. WILL CONTEND WITH GREG ODEN FOR ROOKIE HONOURS.
SLEEPER PICK --> MARKO JARIC HAD A GOOD SEASON LAST YEAR. CAN SHOOT THE 3-BALL AND CAN DRIVE TO THE NET.
PREDICTION --> NO PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR, WILL IMPROVE ON 22 WINS AND MAY JUST HIT 30.
OVERALL --> FAST PACE STLYE OF BASKETBALL. RUDY GAY WILL PROVIDE PLENTY OF HIGHLIGHT REEL DUNKS.
