2008-2009 NBA Forecaster LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS (23-59, 12TH WEST CONF.)

Clippers probably had one of the best off seasons in the NBA getting two big players in Baron Davis and Marcus Camby, and locked them up to long term deals. Too bad there isn’t a supporting cast or else the Clippers would’ve been looking at a playoff spot.

With Baron Davis at the PG position it just provides stability, strong play and leadership. With Marcus Camby the defense just got better, but not to a whole extent. Other than those two players, the starting 5 isn’t as sound, and the bench is extremely thin. Sure the Clippers have Chris Kaman who had a good season last year, but he still has more to prove and a lot of room to grow. Bringing in Ricky Davis was just a whatever move to round out the roster, I guess.

There is one promising young player on the roster, Al Thornton. He had an excellent rookie year last season and showed a great amount of promise. If he can score at east 18 points a game, the Clippers surely will be a strong offensive team. Then again that is a lot to ask for from a sophomore.

Now with Mike Dunleavy as the head coach and general manager, he’ll have his eye on a lot o f his own players. Who knows, maybe the players will play better for their job security. Some players on the roster sure do need it.

POSITIVE --> BARON DAVIS AND AL THORNTON CAN SCORE. MARCUS CAMBY, THE REBOUNDER THE CLIPPERS NEEDED.
NEGATIVE --> NOBODY PAST THOSE THREE WILL DO A LOT OF DAMAGE.
X-FACTOR --> AL THORNTON, SHOWED A LOT OF PROMISE IN ROOKIE YEAR, BUT CAN HE FOLLOW UP AND BE BETTER OR EVEN MATCH IT?
SLEEPER PICK --> DON’T SEE ONE.
PREDICTION --> PLAYOFFS, NOT THIS YEAR. WILL IMPROVE ON 23 WINS FROM LAST YEAR.
OVERALL --> TEAM WILL SCORE, BUT DEFENSE WON’T BE THE BEST. LOOK FOR A LOT OF UP AND DOWN BASKETBALL IN THE WIN/LOSS CATEGORY.
