2008-2009 NBA Forecaster DENVER NUGGETS (50-32, 8TH WEST CONF.)

The Nuggets so far in the Carmello Anthony era have been a big disappointment. Still not having advanced to the second round of the playoffs, the Nuggets have to take a good look at their roster. A facelift for the organization should be on managements mind.

The addition of Allen Iverson was supposed to put the team over the hump. If you’re a stats junkie, you loved how Anthony and Iverson averaged 50 points a game last season. With that, barely any touches got around to other players on the court. I do believe the Nuggets got much worse on both sides of the ball after letting go of Marcus Camby. He was vastly under-utilized and was one those players who barely got any touches. Just imagine what Camby could’ve done if he had at least gotten 15-20 touches a game. The Nuggets would’ve been a better team for it.

The starting 5 is good to go, but ball distribution is going to be a major problem once again. The backcourt and the frontcourt are set, but the bench is thin. When the season begins the only players who will get good playing time are Renaldo Balkman, Chris Andersen, and Chucky Atkins.

The Nuggets are a good team offensively, but weak on defense. Since cutting Camby and his ten rebounds per game loose, they just got much worse. I don’t see this team doing much this year, unless there is a major shake up with the roster.

POSITIVE --> OFFENSE WITH ANTHONY AND IVERSON.
NEGATIVE --> DEFENSE WILL BE MUCH WORSE THAN LAST YEAR.
X-FACTOR --> J.R. SMITH HAS GOT TO BE A MORE CONSISTENT PLAYER.
SLEEPER PICK --> NENE HAS GOOD REBOUNDING NUMBERS, BUT LOOK FOR THOSE TO DROP WITH NO CAMBY.
PREDICTION --> DOG FIGHT FOR FINAL PLAYOFF SPOT.
OVERALL --> IF YOU WANT TO BE ENTERTAINED WATCH THE NUGGETS PLAY AS THEY WILL BE IN A LOT OF CLOSE GAMES. ONLY BECAUSE OF THEIR OFFENSE WILL KEEP THEM IN GAMES.
