A complete disappointment of a season came last year, something that know one in the basketball world expected to see. An off season highlighted by the draft, with the number 1 pick and selecting Derrick Rose, the Bulls hope to see an improvement with the addition.
That is hard to believe when virtually the same team from last year is back except for a few additions. Of those additions the only player who will see significant playing time will be Derrick Rose. So, I am not sold on the Bulls, they still need some work. Defense and offense remain a question mark and no one knows what team is going to show up on a nightly basis. Looks like Vinny Del Negro has some work to do.
The season should provide excitement, coming mainly from the head office as Ben Gordon enters a contract year, and will be a UFA at seasons end. If things go well or don’t, look for Gordon to become expendable. It will be shocking to see Gordon remain a Bull for the full year. All sings point to him walking at the end of the year in my mind. Same deal with Kirk Hinrich; look for his name to be in plenty of trade rumors now that he has all but lost his starting PG job to Derrick Rose. He may just end up sticking around if Derrick Rose shows signs of being a rookie too often.
The frontcourt looks to be set with Luol Deng, Andres Nocioni, Joakim Noah, Drew Gooden, and Tyrus Thomas. Some of those players i.e. Noah and Thomas still have a long way to go. Same goes for the back court with Derrick Rose, Ben Gordon, Larry Hughes and Kirk Hinrich. The inexperienced Rose could present a problem.
POSITIVE --> D. ROSE HAD A SOLID COLLEGE CAREER. MOST LIKELY WILL BE ON OPENING NIGHT ROSTER.
NEGATIVE --> D. ROSE INEXPERIENCE COULD BE AN ISSUE FOR THE TEAM, AND IF PUSHED TO HARD COULD SCREW UP PLAYER. VINNY DEL NEGRO, ROOKIE HEAD COACH, AND HAS COLLEGE COACHING EXPERIENCE.
X-FACTOR --> TOUGH TO SAY AT THIS POINT. TWO POSSIBILITIES: D. ROSE AND L. DENG
SLEEPER PICK --> A. NOCIONI. ALWAYS FINDS A WAY TO PUT TOGETHER A SOLID YEAR.
PREDICTION --> MORE THAN 33 WINS. PLAYOFFS, BATTLE FROM START TO FINISH. JUST NOT SOLD ON THEM.
OVERALL --> D. ROSE COULD CHANGE COMPLEXION OF TEAM IF HE PUTS UP A SOLID YEAR.
