Defending your championship title is no easy task no matter what sport you play, or in which league. For the Celtics it may just be as easy as 1-2-3. With the Big 3 all back and healthy and fulfilling their NBA dreams, their probably hungry for more. Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, all represent defence, offense, and leadership. With these three intact and those qualities above par, look for another 1st place finish in the East.
Although they did lose a solid playoff performer in James Posey (who probably left for big money in New Orleans), but I don’t expect that to affect the Celtics on a larger scale. What he did in the playoffs is too hard to produce and replace. With everyone a year wiser and with championship experience, Celtics players may not miss him a whole lot this season. Since the bench is also the same from last year, expect everyone to compete harder for more playing time.
A few questions do arise, and that is the play of Rajon Rondo at the PG position. Can he put together a solid and complete season for 82 games? A lot of people forget about him sometimes, due to the fact his teammates made him look good. Rajon Rondo was fortunate to be surrounded with classy veterans who taught him a lot about the game at such a young age still. This season will be a true test as to whether or not a championship run taught him anything.
Some things are just a lock, defense, with K.G. as the anchor and best defensive player of ’08. Scoring with Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, K.G. and throw in Kendrick Perkins who has shown he can score. The bench is good to go for another year as well.
POSITIVE--> BIG 3 AND BENCH.
NEGATIVE --> MAYBE INSIDE SCORING OFF THE BENCH.
X-FACTOR --> RAJON RONDO, BUT NOT TO A WHOLE EXTENT.
SLEEPER PICK --> GLEN DAVIS. WITH K.G. AS A TEAHCER, LOOK FOR GLEN DAVIS TO PROVIDE SCORING OFF THE BENCH.
PREDICTION --> PLAYOFFS, BOOK IT. 60+ WINS, AND PROBABLY ANOTHER 1ST PLACE FINISH IN THE EAST. STRONG POSSIBILITY OF NBA FINALS, MAYBE EVEN A REMATCH OF LAST YEARS.
OVERALL --> LOOK FOR WHAT YOU SAW LAST YEAR, ENOUGH SAID.
